The UK's largest zoological gardens, with over 7,000 animals in spacious enclosures set in 110 acres of landscaped gardens. Liverpool Football Club Museum and Stadium Tour: tour includes, dressingrooms, players' tunnel, coaches seating area and grandstand. Museum features trophies and memorabilia. Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King: this unique circular cathedral designed by Frederick Gibberd and completed in the 1960s is noted for its distinctive 'Crown of Thorns' lantern tower, filled with spectacular coloured glass by John Piper. The 16 chapels surrounding the circular nave contain numerous modern works of art. Below is the monumental crypt of an earlier incomplete project by Edwin Lutyens. Visitors are welcome to attend the daily and Sun services, several of which are sung by the internationally-renowned Metropolitan Cathedral Choir.

The National Wildflower Centre promotes new wildflower landscapes and the creation of new wildlife habitats. Located in a 35-acre park, a former walled garden now produces the wildflower seeds and plants that help fund the charity. Nearby is a stunning 150m-long visitor building, featuring a cafe and shop, outdoor exhibitions, the wildflower garden and a children's area, whilst a promenade deck looks out across the complex. Seasonal wildflower demonstration areas have been developed to view throughout the season.

Hawkshead Grammar School Museum: Elizabethan grammar school built 1585, attended by the poet William Wordsworth, all original desks.

Townend: a 17thC Lakeland Yeoman farmer's house nestled on the side of the Troutbeck valley. Virtually untouched for the last 400yrs.
